Men’s Basketball: Rio Hondo offense explodes in win over El Camino
Jesus Hernandez scored a game-high 39 points to lead Rio Hondo College to its first win of the season, a 115-101 outburst over visiting El Camino College on Wednesday.
New Rio Hondo College head coach Steve Johnson earned his first career victory on the men's bench as the Roadrunners eclipsed the 100-point mark in a big 115-101 South Coast Conference interdivision win over the visiting El Camino College Warriors on Wednesday.
Jesus Hernandez had a huge game off the bench for the Roadrunners, leading all with 39 points in just 29 minutes on the court. He made 12 of 20 shots from the field and sank 12 of 14 free throws during his impressive outing. He also added four rebounds and three assists.
Rio Hondo held a narrow 63-58 lead at halftime over the Warriors before outscoring El Camino 52-43 in the second.
Kenyatta Louder had a good game with 20 points and seven rebounds while Anthony Rios came up just short to earning a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Rio Hondo, now 1-4 overall, looks to keep its momentum going when the Roadrunners return to action next Friday (Dec. 1) against San Bernardino Valley College to open up the three-day Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster.
