Sophomore Juaquin Zavala nailed eight three-pointers on his way to a season-high 27 points to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 72-56 Foothill Conference win over visiting Barstow College on Wednesday night in Whittier. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Roadrunners as they improved to 9-16 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Zavala had 12 points at halftime as the Roadrunners led 34-30 at the break. The Roadrunners opened the second half scoring 13 of the first 15 points. Michael Barrera's three-pointer at the 14:29 mark gave Rio Hondo a commanding 47-34 advantage.
Justin Elliott added 12 points and seven assists for the Roadrunners while Ruiz and Preston Sachs both score nine points.
Christian Drayton led Barstow (7-15, 3-3 FC) with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Rio Hondo returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 1:00 p.m. when the Roadrunners host Chaffey College in a Foothill Conference game.
