Men's Basketball: Rio Hondo falls 89-68 at No. 11 Chaffey

Sophomore Leo Maidana posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Rio Hondo College lost 89-68 at No. 11 state-ranked Chaffey College on Wednesday night in a Foothill Conference game. The Roadrunners dropped to 7-14 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Rio Hondo had already beaten Chaffey once this season, cruising to a 72-65 win in the championship final of the El Camino College tournament back in November. But it was the Panthers that rolled to the victory on Wednesday to even the season series.

Chaffey (15-5, 2-0 FC) was up 40-31 at halftime and was never really threatened.

Sophomore Justin Elliott also had an impressive scoring line for the Roadrunners despite the loss. He totaled 18 points, six assists, and three rebound while sophomore Juaquin Zavala chipped in with eight points.

Rio Hondo looks to snap its six-game losing streak on Saturday (Jan. 16) at 3 p.m. when the Roadrunners host College of the Desert in their home opener.
