Baseball: Flores, Johnson earn All-SCC postseason honors
Following the close of the 2022 Rio Hondo College baseball season, freshman catcher Rafael Flores and freshman pitcher Blake Johnson earned All-South Coast Conference postseason honors.
Following the close of the 2022 Rio Hondo College baseball season, freshman catcher Rafael Flores and freshman pitcher Blake Johnson earned All-South Coast Conference postseason honors. Flores had an impressive season offensively for the Roadrunners and was named first-team All-SCC while Johnson was an honorable mention selection.
Flores, out of Katella High School, closed out the 24-game conference schedule batting .333. He smashed 4 home runs, hit 9 doubles and totaled 18 RBI. Overall, Flores had a .380 batting average, totaled 63 hits, 16 doubles, 9 home runs, and 36 RBI.
Johnson, from San Dimas High School, put together a solid first season on the mound for the Roadrunners. In 11 SCC appearances, Johnson struck out 21 batters over 27 innings. He started four games and compiled a 1-1 record with a save and 4.33 earned run average.
Overall, Johnson struck out 51 batters over 50 innings and had a 2.88 ERA. He ended with a 4-1 record and 3 saves.
Rio Hondo wrapped up the season with a 19-21 overall record and went 9-15 in South Coast Conference play to finish in sixth place out of nine teams in the final standings.
