Baseball: Roadrunners shut out at Pasadena in SCC opener

The South Coast Conference schedule got off to a rough start for Rio Hondo College as the Roadrunners totaled just four hits on their way to an 11-0 loss at Pasadena City College on Tuesday.

The three-game conference series continues on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 2 p.m. in Whittier and closes on Saturday (Feb. 22) back at Pasadena with first scheduled for noon.

Rio Hondo couldn't get much going offensively against a trio of Pasadena pitchers on Tuesday. Starter Ryan Graves struck out three while allowing four hits over 7 2/3 shut out innings. Andrew Fernandez (1/3 inning) and Reese Cusiter (1 inning) closed out the victory for the Lancers (7-6, 1-0 SCC).

Steven Alvarez, who started the contest for the Roadrunners, matched Graves for the first three innings, posting zeroes against the Lancers. But he ran into trouble in the fourth, allowing four runs which proved to be all PCC would need. Alvarez took the loss after allowing four runs and five hits over 4 innings.

The Roadrunners left seven runners on base, including a pair in the top of the eighth.

Rio Hondo saw its record move to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in South Coast Conference play.
