Rio Hondo College began a two-game South Coast Conference series at El Camino College on Monday with a 7-0 loss in Torrance. The defeat dropped the Roadrunners to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Roadrunners couldn't get much going offensively against a trio of Warriors pitchers and managed just five hits.

Rio Hondo starting pitcher Abraham Carrillo pitched his way out of jams in the first and second innings, stranded a pair of runners each frame. But the Warriors finally chased him from the game with three runs in the third.

Carrillo took the loss after allowing three runs and six hits over three innings. He struck out four and walked two. Robert Lopez and Isaiah Vasquez pitched well in relief, throwing scoreless innings to close out the game.

Tyler Waldsworth had three of the five Rio Hondo hits, going 3 for 4 to lead the Roadrunners.

Rio Hondo will look to earn a split in the series when the set closes out on Thursday (Mar. 7) back in Whittier. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
