Baseball: Roadrunners gets offensive in 13-4 win over Glendale

Rio Hondo College erupted out of an early season slump to score 13 runs and bang out 11 hits in as the Roadrunners rolled to a 13-4 non-conference win over visiting Glendale Community College on Saturday in Whittier.

After dropping their first three games of the season, Rio Hondo has now won two straight to improve to 2-3 overall.

Glendale starting pitcher Chris Davidson wasn't fooling the Roadrunners as they bounced on him early and often. After a scoreless first, Rio Hondo put up three runs each in the second, third, and fifth innings while scoring twice in the fourth. The Roadrunners were up 11-2 after five innings.

Marcos Rivas (2 for 5), Nick Ybarra (2 for 5, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Aiden Gutierrez (2 for 4, 2 RBI), and Kelby Nava (2 for 5) all had two hits each to lead Rio Hondo at the plate.

R.J. Van earned the win for the Roadrunners after allowing two runs and four hits over six innings. Edmundo Fernandez also tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Rio Hondo will look to add to its winning streak on Tuesday (Feb. 6) when the Roadrunners travel to College of the Canyons for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
