After recently wrapping up the 2017 season, seven Rio Hondo College Roadrunners earned postseason honors as they were named All-South Coast Conference North Division. First team selections included sophomores Brady Carlson (SP), Anthony Franco (RP), R.J. Romo (1B), and Randy Buenrostro (OF) while sophomores Chris Velasquez (SP), Danny Marquez (C), and Gabe Chavez (INF) were second team picks.

In SCC action, Carlson posted a 4-1 overall record for the Roadrunners. Over 48 2/3 innings, he compiled a 3.14 earned run average (ERA) and struck out 32 batters.

Franco was the division's top relief pitcher as he compiled five saves. He struck out 26 batters over 27 innings and posted a 2-2 record.

Romo had a .320 batting average in conference action while collecting 16 RBI and six doubles. Buenrostro hit .275 and posted six doubles, a home run and 11 RBI.

Highlights for the Roadrunners' second team selections included Velasquez striking out 24 over 30 1/3 innings, Marquez driving in 13 runs with a .329 batting average, and Chavez hitting six doubles with 10 RBI.

Despite a 19-17 overall record for the Roadrunners, it was a disappointing ending. Rio Hondo finished tied for second place in the SCC North Division at 11-11 but just missed reaching the playoffs and had its run of 12 straight postseason appearances snapped.
