Rio Hondo College extended its season-high winning streak to 10 games thanks to a 7-3 victory at Chaffey College on Thursday. The Roadrunners (21-11, 16-4 FC) are just one game back of Chaffey (23-10, 17-3 FC) in first place in the Foothill Conference standings with just four games left to play.
Rio Hondo and Chaffey wrap up their three-game conference series back in Whittier on Saturday (Apr. 23) at noon.
R.J. Romo and Mike Hernandez both went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to lead Rio Hondo at the plate. Mauricio Guadarrama smashed his third home run of the season as he went 2 for 5 with two runs scored.
Anthony Franco picked up the win in relief for the Roadrunners to improve to 2-3 overall. He closed out the final 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs and seven hits.
After losing their first five games and opening with a 2-7 record, the Roadrunners are one of the hottest teams in the state. Both Rio Hondo and Saddleback College are currently riding 10-game winning streaks.
