Baseball: Roadrunners complete three-game sweep of Barstow

Rio Hondo College surged to its fifth straight win and closed out a three-game Foothill Conference series sweep of Barstow College with its 7-3 victory at The Jungle on Saturday. The Roadrunners have won nine of their last 10 ball games and improved their record to 16-11 overall and 11-4 in conference play.

Rio Hondo scored a pair of runs off Barstow (10-17, 7-8 FC) starting pitcher Nicholas Winkler in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed. Holding a narrow 4-3 lead, the Roadrunners broke the game open with three runs in the sixth inning.

R.J. Romo led Rio Hondo at the plate with his 3 for 5 effort. He smacked a two-run single in the sixth and scored three runs. Mike Hernandez and Albert Perez also had 2 RBI for the Roadrunners.

Cameron Legrand (3-0) picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs and seven hits over six innings. Anthony Franco closed out the victory for his first save with three scoreless innings of relief.

Rio Hondo looks to extend its winning streak on Tuesday (Apr. 12) at 2:30 p.m. when the Roadrunners travel to Cerro Coso for a conference game.
