Baseball: Roadrunners snap losing streak with 5-1 win over L.A. Pierce

Joe Wills tossed six innings of shutout ball while Mauricio Guadarrama went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 5-1 non-conference win over Los Angeles Pierce College on Wednesday at the University of La Verne's Ben Hines Field. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Roadrunners and improved them to 8-10 overall.

Wills put together his second straight dominant performance on the mound as he allowed five hits and struck out six.

Rio Hondo totaled 13 hits in the game, including a team-high three from Gabe Chavez. The Roadrunners scored single runs in the third and fourth innings before Guadarrama lined a two-run single in the fifth to score R.J. Romo and Mike Hernandez. Chavez closed out Rio Hondo's scoring with a RBI single in the sixth.

Pierce (6-14) rallied for a run in the top of the eighth off reliever Preston Brown before Avery Vasquez closed out the win with a scoreless ninth.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Tuesday (Mar. 22) when the Roadrunners host Victor Valley College in a 2:30 p.m. Foothill Conference game.
