Beach Volleyball: Roadrunners edged 3-2 by San Diego City

LONG BEACH – A tough stretch for the Rio Hondo College women's beach volleyball team continued on Friday as the Roadrunners suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to San Diego City College in a non-conference match played at Long Beach City College.

Rio Hondo picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 5 while the No. 1 and No. 4 matches went to three sets that were ultimately won by the Knights.

Ariel Garcia and Faith Wada were 21-17, 22-20 winners over SDCC's Kally Nonell and Ashley Davies at No. 2 while Rio's Valarie Romero and Faith Martinez beat the duo of Jadian Dilg and Ryla Manalang 21-16, 21-16.

At No. 1, Nadine Oronoz and Faith Lee suffered a 20-22, 21-14, 15-9 loss. At No. 3, Deidamia Challapa and Haedee Estrella lost 22-20, 21-18 while Leanet Fandino and Camila Rau fell 21-19, 19-21, 15-11.

It was Rio Hondo's second straight 3-2 loss and fifth consecutive defeat. The Roadrunners are 1-6 overall as they head into their South Coast Conference opener next Friday (Mar. 11) at El Camino College. Rio Hondo is also scheduled to face Bakersfield College in a non-conference match later in the day at ECC.
