Beach Volleyball: Roadrunners pick up wins over Santa Ana, Palomar

It was a great day to be on the beach for Rio Hondo College as the Roadrunners earned a pair of non-conference victories at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach. Rio Hondo opened the day with a narrow 3-2 win over Santa Ana College and then rolled to a 4-1 triumph against Palomar College.

Earning two doubles wins each on the day were the No. 1 team of Nicole Vasquez and Vania Maciel, the No. 2 duo of Mara Sanchez and Stephanie Perez, and the No. 4 squad of Jocelyn Abad and Katherina O'Brien.

At No. 3, the duo of Janine Coria and Ariel Garcia earned a three-set win against Palomar. It was a tough day for Rio Hondo's No. 5 team as Alina Velo and Maya Garcia suffered close three-set losses in both matches.

The Roadrunners snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to 3-4 overall. Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Mar. 6) when it opens South Coast Conference play against Long Beach City College at the Granada Beach courts in Long Beach.
