Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners rally for thrilling five-set win over East LA

WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College started off slow but finished strong when it counted most.

Facing visiting East Los Angeles College on Wednesday night, the Roadrunners quickly fell behind by dropping the first two sets. But with their backs to the wall, Rio Hondo rallied to win the final three to complete an amazing 21-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-10 victory over the Huskies.

The Roadrunners continued their impressive midseason run. Wednesday's South Coast Conference win was their fourth straight and sixth victory over their past seven matches. Rio Hondo improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the SCC.

Sophomore Nadine Oronoz led the Roadrunners with 19 kills and 26 digs. Maria Bejines added 13 kills while Faith Lee posted 25 digs, 6 kills, and 2 aces.

Also for the Roadrunners, Daniela Sanchez totaled 25 digs and Faith Wada had 23 assists, 18 digs, and 4 aces. Haedee Estrella added 18 assists and 13 digs.

The Roadrunners are back in action on Friday (Oct. 7) when they travel to El Camino College for a 6 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
