Women’s Soccer: Macias named CCCSIA State Athlete of the Month

Fresh off earning the top seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs, Rio Hondo College women's soccer standout Alexis Macias was named the State Athlete of the Month for October by the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA).

Macias, a freshman forward out of Downey High School, turned in an amazing month on the field for the Roadrunners.

Over seven games in October, Macias totaled 16 goals and 7 assists for 39 points in helping lead Rio Hondo to a perfect 7-0 record. She had hat tricks with three goals in four of those games.

Macias also extended her consecutive goal scoring streak to 14 games. She recently closed out the regular-season leading Southern California with 30 goals and 71 points.

Macias shares the State Athlete of the Month honor with Hartnell College men's cross country runner Isaac Gensel.

The No. 1-seeded Rio Hondo women's soccer team will open postseason play on Saturday (Nov. 20) at 6 p.m., hosting the winner of No. 16 San Bernardino Valley College and No. 17 Southwestern College in a first-round game of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
