Wrestling: Roadrunners finish seventh at Santa Ana Invitational

SANTA ANA – Led by a first-place finish by sophomore Devin Martinez, the Rio Hondo College wrestling team totaled 86 points to finish in seventh place out of 12 teams at the Santa Ana College Invitational.

Martinez went 4-0 on the day to capture the 133-pound title. He needed just 2:27 to pin Mt. SAC's Pedro Lacerda in the final. It was his second win by fall of the tourney.

Also placing for the Roadrunners was sophomore Dylan Atherton and freshman Finn Long.

Atherton reached the 125-pound finals but ultimately lost to Chris Calderson of Mt. SAC. Atherton went 3-1, winning 2 matches by fall and another by major decision.

Long ended in fifth place at 141. He advanced to the semifinals but suffered a loss to Evan Roy from Victor Valley. He ended the event beating Jake Topartzer of Cerritos 7-3 in the fifth-place match. He went 3-2 at the tourney.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Oct. 11 when the Roadrunners travel to Cerritos College for their Southwest Conference dual match opener. The event it set to begin at 7 p.m.
