Women’s Basketball: Warriors rout El Camino 73-36 in home opener

WHITTIER – Freshman Miranda Morales scored a season-high 30 points to help lead Rio Hondo College to a huge 73-36 victory over visiting El Camino College in the Roadrunners' home debut on Friday.

The win snapped Rio Hondo's five-game losing streak and improved the Roadrunners to 2-6 overall.

In just eight games this season, Morales has proven to be one of the top scoring threats in the South Coast Conference. Her 17.6 points per game currently ranks fifth in the SCC while her 34.3 three-point percentage is fourth in the conference.

On Friday, Morales helped the Roadrunners get out to a commanding 14-0 lead as she nailed a trio of three-pointers and added a layup for 11 quick points over the opening 4 minutes of the game.

She sank 8 three-pointers in the contest and added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block to her impressive night.

Serenity Gastelum came off the bench to score 9 points and Hesma Valdes contributed 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Rio Hondo is back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 21) at 5 p.m. when the Roadrunners will face Citrus College in a game played at El Camino in Torrance.
