Softball: Rio Hondo finishes sixth in South Coast Conference, claim 5 All-SCC honors

The 2023 Rio Hondo College softball season came to a close on winning note thanks to a 4-2 victory at East Los Angeles College on Wednesday in the Roadrunners' regular-season finale.

Trailing 2-1 after four innings, Rio Hondo rallied to score twice in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth to pull out the come-from-behind win. Nadia Landeros came through with the run-scoring single that drove in Angelina Aldrete for the go-ahead run.

Leiana Rodriguez led the Roadrunners at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI.

Lourdes Soria picked up the win in relief, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the game.

Rio Hondo got hot towards the end of the season, winning eight of its final 10 ball games to close out the year with a solid 20-19 overall record. The Roadrunners claimed sixth place in the final South Coast Conference standings at 10-14 under head coach Bianca Urquidi.

2023 ALL-SOUTH COAST CONFERENCE HONORS

Rio Hondo had five named to the All-South Coast Conference postseason softball team.

Sophomore centerfielder Angelina Aldrete was named first-team All-SCC to lead the Roadrunners. Aldrete led the conference with 57 hits during the regular season and closed with a .422 batting average with 19 RBI.

Second-team honors went to sophomore pitcher Clarissa Evangelista and freshman shortstop Leiana Rodriguez. Evangelista closed with a 9-12 overall record in the circle with a 2.94 earned run average. Rodriguez hit .368 with 10 doubles, 4 triples, and 31 RBI.

Named Honorable Mention were sophomore infielders Ashley Bravo and Nadine Marquez.
