Men’s Soccer: Rio Hondo gets No. 13 seed, travels to No. 4 Santa Monica for playoffs

The road to a state championship begins on Saturday for the Rio Hondo College men's soccer team.

The Roadrunners return to the postseason for the second straight season after they were named the No. 13 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs. Rio Hondo is set to travel to No. 4-seed Santa Monica College for a first-round game at SMC on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.

Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) postseason game are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old. Rio Hondo enters the postseason with an 8-10-3 overall record. Under head coach Orlando Brenes, the Roadrunners finished second in the South Coast Conference South Division with a 5-3-1 mark.

Santa Monica wrapped up the regular season with a 15-2-5 overall record. The Corsairs were champions of the Western State Conference North Division at 9-0-1.

Rio Hondo and Santa Monica will be meeting for the second time this season. On Sept. 22, Rio Hondo beat Santa Monica by a final score 3-2 at home. The winner of Saturday's contest will take on either No. 2 Oxnard College or No. 12 Antelope Valley College in a second-round game on Tuesday (Nov. 21).

Three wins are needed by the Roadrunners to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on Dec. 1 & 3 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
