Men’s Soccer: Roadrunners rout Santa Barbara 4-1 for first win

WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College is finally in the win column thanks to an impressive 4-1 victory over visiting Santa Barbara City College on Friday in its home opener.

Four different Roadrunners scored in the contest. Rio Hondo got first half goals from Angel Villamar (32nd minute) and Ariel Solano (40th) to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

SBCC got a goal back in the 67th minute to cut Rio Hondo's lead in half but the Roadrunners iced the victory after Robert Rodriguez knocked in a penalty kick (72nd) and Charlie Rosales (90th) closed the scoring just moments before the final whistle.

Diego Bastias earned the win in goal for Rio Hondo as he posted 10 saves.

With the win, Rio Hondo improved to 1-1-1 overall. The Roadrunners are back in action on Tuesday (Sep. 5) when they travel to San Bernardino Valley College for a non-conference game.
