Roadrunners named No. 10 seed for SoCal Regionals; Bejines, Roldan advance to regional pairs tournament

Another impressive Rio Hondo College women's beach volleyball season will continue into the postseason as the Roadrunners were recently named the No. 10 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Rio Hondo will compete in a three-team regional tourney to take on host No. 2-seeded Ventura College and No. 7 San Diego Mesa College on Tuesday, April 30. Matches will take place at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. The site winner will advance to the 3C2A State Team Championship on May 9 at West Valley College.

The Roadrunners recently closed the regular season with a 14-7 overall record and finished fourth in the final South Coast Conference standings at 5-5.

Ventura brings a 17-5 overall record into the playoffs and was champions of the Western State Conference with an 11-1 record. San Diego Mesa also captured a conference title, finishing first in the Pacific Coast Conference at 11-1. Mesa is 18-3 overall.

Rio Hondo came away with a narrow win over Ventura in their only meeting of the season. The Roadrunners took the non-conference match 3-2 on March 1 at El Camino College. Rio Hondo and San Diego Mesa will face off for the first time this season.

The Roadrunners are looking to make their first trip to the team state championships in program history.

Bejines, Roldan advance to Southern California pairs tournament

The Rio Hondo College duo of sophomore Maria Bejines (#12) and freshman Osyris Roldan (#2) earned a spot in the upcoming Southern California Regionals Pairs Championships that are set for May 3-4 at El Camino College in Torrance.

The sixth-seeded duo finished in sixth place overall out of 30 teams at the South Coast Conference Pairs Championships that took place on April 19-20 at Mt. San Antonio College.

Bejines and Roldan opened the event winning their first two matches to reach the quarterfinals. After dropping their quarterfinal match, the duo won a consolation round match to advance to the fifth-place match. They ultimately compiled a 3-2 record at the tournament.
