Roadrunners split matches at El Camino

TORRANCE – Rio Hondo College opened its South Coast Conference schedule on Friday with a tough 3-2 loss at El Camino College. But the Roadrunners were able to bounce back by edging Ventura College in a non-conference match later that day by a final score of 3-2.

Rio Hondo moved to 9-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Against El Camino, the Roadrunners got wins at No. 2 from the duo of Maleia Petterez and Maria Bejines as well as at No. 4 from Josie Navarro and Daniela Sanchez. The No. 3 matchup proved to be pivotal as the Warriors were able to outlast the Rio Hondo squad of Herlinda Casanova and Loren Forster in three sets.

The Roadrunners are back in action next Friday (Mar. 8) at 10 a.m. when they are scheduled to play a South Coast Conference match at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
