Women's Volleyball: Roadrunners pick up 3-1 win over LA Harbor

Rio Hondo College returned to its winning ways on Wednesday by beating visiting Los Angeles Harbor College 3-1 in a South Coast Conference match in Whittier.

The 25-11, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22 victory improved the Roadrunners to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Rio Hondo's lone SCC losses have been to state-ranked opponents.

Freshman Alina Velo put together one of her finest matches for the Roadrunners this season. She totaled a team-high 11 kills on 17 attempts with just two errors on her way to an impressive .529 hitting percentage. She also added three blocks up front.

Also contributing on offense were Sierra Smethurst with 10 kills as well as Danielle Betancourt and Katherina O'Brien with eight kills each. Nicole Vasquez totaled seven kills and five aces while setter Aliah Trujillo posted 40 assists, 11 digs, and three aces.

Janine Coria led the Rio Hondo defense with 16 digs.

The Roadrunners return to conference play on Friday (Oct. 11) when they play a 6 p.m. match at Mt. San Antonio College.
