Men’s Soccer: Roadrunners roll to 5-2 rout of Compton

Sophomores Federico Hurtado and Havier Zaragoza both scored twice to help lead the Rio Hondo College men's soccer team to a 5-2 win over visiting Compton College in a South Coast Conference game on Tuesday.

The win improved the Roadrunners to 5-5-3 overall and 1-0-1 in SCC play. Rio Hondo is unbeaten in six of its last eight games.

Hurtado opened the scoring with the first of his two goals in the 30th minute. With Rio Hondo up 1-0 at halftime, the Roadrunners broke the game open in the second.

Hurtado broke free for his second goal in the 46th minute before Compton got one back thanks to a goal by Alfredo Trujillo in the 65th minute.

Zaragoza and the Roadrunners responded with goals in the 72nd and 85th minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Trujillo put in his second goal for Tartars in the 90th minute before Abraham Figueroa closed out the scoring with his goal for Rio Hondo also in the 90th minute.

Jafet Salgado posted six saves in goal for the Roadrunners in the win.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Oct. 18) when they travel to El Camino College for a 4 p.m. conference game.
