Women’s Volleyball: Esko, Bejines rack up postseason honors

The postseason accolades for the Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team continue to roll in for head coach Teddi Esko and sophomore outside hitter Maria Bejines.

Following a regular season that saw the Roadrunners win its first-ever South Coast Conference championship, Esko was named the Southern California Coach of the Year by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association. This came after Esko was named the SCC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Rio Hondo was nearly perfect in conference play, going 15-1. The Roadrunners, seeded sixth, take a 21-4 overall record into Saturday's third-round Southern California Regional Playoffs match at No. 3 Grossmont College. The Roadrunners have already made history by advancing to the third round and look to achieve even more as they are just one win away from the state championships.

Bejines has put together a solid two-year career for Rio Hondo. The 2023 South Coast Conference Most Valuable Player was also named second-team All-American, All-State, and all All-Southern California. As a freshman in 2022, Bejines was a first-team All-South Coast Conference selection.
