Women’s Volleyball: Bejines, Zuniga, Esko earn top SCC postseason honors

The postseason honors are starting to come in following another impressive Rio Hondo College women's volleyball regular season. After capturing the college's first women's volleyball South Coast Conference championship, the Roadrunners had 7 receive All-SCC postseason awards.

Leading the way, just as they have done all season, are sophomores Maria Bejines and Jaida Zuniga. Bejines was named the South Coast Conference Most Valuable Player while Zuniga took home Libero of the Year honors.

Rio Hondo head coach Teddi Esko was named the South Coast Conference Coach of the Year to give the Roadrunners a sweep of the top three SCC accolades.

Esko was named South Coast Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight season. It marked her third SCC Coach of the Year honor. She was also twice selected the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year.

Selected first-team All-South Coast Conference were freshman outside hitter Jade Fuentes and freshman setter Carly Kejmar. Earning second-team honors were freshman setter Madison Mader and sophomore middle hitter Jayleen Garcia.

The Roadrunners closed out the regular season with an impressive 15-1 record in South Coast Conference matches on their way to the SCC title. Rio Hondo, which has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the state this season, is currently 20-4 overall.

Brackets for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs are scheduled to be announced on Thursday (Nov. 16) with opening-round matches set for Saturday, Nov. 18.
