Women’s Volleyball: SCC champion Roadrunners wrap up regular season with win

WHITTIER – The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball program honored its sophomores on Friday at its final regular season home match. But after wrapping up the college's first-ever South Coast Conference championship earlier in the week, those sophomores, as well as the freshmen, still have at least one more match to play.

After Friday's 25-8, 24-26, 25-17, 25-14 victory over No. 16 state-ranked Long Beach City College, the No. 12-ranked Roadrunners can now turn their attention towards the postseason.

"My squad played fantastic tonight," said Rio Hondo head coach Teddi Esko. "They were eager to pick up another conference win and it showed in their game play. It was wonderful to close out conference play with a win and celebrate our SCC championship with our fans. The energy in the gym was amazing."

The Roadrunners closed out the regular season on a five-match winning streak and compiled an impressive 15-1 record to capture the 2023 South Coast Conference championship. Rio Hondo will head to the playoffs with a 20-4 overall mark.

Matchups for the Southern California Regional Playoffs are set to be announced on Thursday.
