Women’s Volleyball: No. 11 Rio Hondo bounces back with sweep of LA City

WHITTIER – Coming off a tough loss on Wednesday night, No. 11 state-ranked Rio Hondo College responded on Friday with a convincing 25-10, 25-21, 25-14 sweep of Los Angeles City College on Friday night at home.

The South Coast Conference victory keeps the Roadrunners on top of the conference standings at 10-1. They currently hold a slim lead over second-place Long Beach at 9-2, with Pasadena (8-3), and Mt. SAC (7-4) not far behind with five SCC matches to go.

Rio Hondo was able to get some experience on the floor for many of its reserve players. Emily Maldonado and Jayleen Garcia both had 5 kills each to lead the Roadrunners' offense while Krizia Carandang had 4 kills.

Jennifer Reynoso posted 10 digs and Herlinda Casanova added 7 digs.

With the win, Rio Hondo improved to 15-4 overall. The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 25) to host Mt. San Antonio College in a SCC match at 5 p.m.
