Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners win fifth straight, climb to No. 15 in state poll

Following its 3-1 win at Mt. San Antonio College on Friday, Rio Hondo College rose six spots to No. 15 in this week's California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) State Rankings.

The Roadrunners defeated previously No. 19 state-ranked Mt. SAC by scores of 29-27, 25-23, 15-25, 25-22 for their fifth consecutive victory. They improved to 9-3 overall and currently sit on top of the South Coast Conference standings tied with Long Beach City College at 4-0.

Maria Bejines and Jade Fuentes led the Rio Hondo offense against Mt. SAC. Bejines totaled 16 kills to go with 10 digs while Fuentes posted 15 kills and 10 digs. Jaida Zuniga and Carly Kejmar led Rio Hondo with 13 digs each and Madison Mader had a team-high 21 assists.

Earlier in the week, Rio Hondo cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-5) conference sweep at Los Angeles City College.

The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 27) when they host East Los Angeles College in a 6 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
