Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners cruise to sweep at Mt. SAC

Sophomore Katherina O'Brien slammed home a season-best 12 kills to help lead the Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win at Mt. San Antonio College on Friday night.

The Roadrunners swept the Mounties, winning the South Coast Conference match by scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-22 to improve to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the SCC. Rio Hondo has won three of its last four contests.

Making just her third start of the season, O'Brien came up big for the Roadrunners when needed. She added a couple of digs and a block to round out her night.

Also contributing on offense were Danielle Betancourt with eight kills and Nicole Vasquez with seven kills. Aliah Trujillo totaled 32 assists to go along with five digs, two aces, and two kills.

On the defensive side, Janine Coria led Rio Hondo with 10 digs. Vasquez and Mara Sanchez posted eight digs while Stephanie Perez added seven digs. Alina Velo was also solid up front with three blocks.

Rio Hondo will look to continue its winning streak on Wednesday (Oct. 16) when the Roadrunners travel to Cerritos College for a 6 p.m. SCC match.
