Women’s Volleyball: Home sweet home (finally) for Roadrunners

The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball finally ended its winless streak at home thanks to a marathon 3-2 win over the visiting Cerritos College Falcons on Friday. The Roadrunners had lost their first seven matches on their home court to begin the season before pulling out the 25-17, 23-25, 25-11, 22-25, 15-7 South Coast Conference interdivision victory.

It was a huge team effort in earning the win as the Roadrunners got numerous contributions from all over the court.

Nicole Vasquez was serving up fire as she totaled 6 aces while Danielle Betancourt led the offense with 13 kills.

Pacing the offense were setters Aliah Trujillo with 18 assists and Denyse Perez who contributed 15 assists.

The defense also played a big role. Stephanie Perez came up with a team-best 14 digs, Felipa Moreno had 13 digs, and Janine Coria totaled 12 digs to go with 3 aces.

Rio Hondo, now 5-12 overall, continues SCC interdivision play on Wednesday (Oct. 24) when the Roadrunners travel to El Camino College for a 6 p.m. match in Torrance.
