Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners split matches at OCC Quad

Rio Hondo College picked up its first win of the season, a 3-1 defeat of Glendale Community College as part of the Orange Coast College Quad on Friday in Costa Mesa. The Roadrunners went on to split their matches after falling to host OCC 3-1 earlier that day.

The Roadrunners cruised to the win, taking the match by scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21. Jordan Midyette paced the Rio Hondo offense with 10 kills and 4 blocks while Katherine O'Brien added 8 kills.

Felipa Moreno was huge on defense and led all with 22 digs. Denyse Perez totaled 17 assists and Mia Torres posted 14 assists.

The Roadrunners had a tougher time in their morning match and lost by scores of 25-18, 27-29, 25-13, 25-15 to the Pirates. After dropping the opener, Rio Hondo won a marathon 29-27 second set but couldn't carry the momentum into the rest of the contest.

Rio Hondo totaled just 25 kills for the match. Moreno led the way with 5 kills to go along with 12 digs. Aliah Trujillo had a team-high 11 assists.

Rio Hondo, now 1-2 overall, returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 5) when the Roadrunners host Cuyamaca College in a 5 p.m. non-conference match.
