Sophomore Bree Newton led all with 10 kills as the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners wasted little time in a 25-13, 25-18, 25-15 sweep of visiting Los Angeles Trade-Tech College on Friday in Whittier.

The South Coast Conference interdivision win improved Rio Hondo to 8-12 overall.

Newton's 10 kills nearly matched the entire team total for Trade-Tech as the Beavers managed just 11 kills. The Roadrunners were also efficient on the attack as they committed just eight hitting errors.

Michell Chavez-Valdivia also had a good all-around match, contributing five kills, three aces, and three digs. Newton and Natalie Magallon led Rio Hondo with four digs while Mia Torres' nine assists paced the Roadrunners.

Rio Hondo will face a much tougher test in its next match when the Roadrunners travel to No. 15 state-ranked Long Beach City College next Friday (Oct. 27) for another SCC crossover match.
