Women's Volleyball: Roadrunners have four named All-SCC North Division

Four members of the Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team earned postseason honors as sophomores Carleigh Cruz, Paula Alferez, and Haley Brownwood, as well as freshman Bree Newton were named to the All-South Coast Conference North Division team.

Leading the way were Cruz and Newton as first-team selections while Alferez and Brownwood represent Rio Hondo on the second team.

From the libero position, Cruz led Rio Hondo and ranked seventh in the SCC North with 2.60 digs per set. She also totaled 17 aces and chipped in with 63 assists.

Newton at middle blocker led the Roadrunners with 43 total blocks (23 solo) while ranking seventh in the SCC North with 0.64 blocks per set. She also totaled 147 kills and slammed down 2.19 kills per set.

Alferez had a good all-around season for Rio Hondo in 2016. The outside hitter totaled 97 kills, 97 digs, and served up 21 aces.

Brownwood split time at setter for the Roadrunners and was second on the squad with 285 assists (4.38 A/S). She hit an impressive .400 on the season as Brownwood totaled 40 kills on 75 attempts. She also had 31 aces and came up with 52 digs.

Rio Hondo recently wrapped up the season with an 11-11 overall record and finished third in the SCC North at 3-5.
