Women's Volleyball: Rio Hondo returns to SCC North with loss at Pasadena

Rio Hondo College threw everything it could by sending 14 players out to the court but still suffered a 3-0 loss at Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference North Division match on Wednesday.

The 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 loss to the Lancers dropped the Roadrunners to 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the SCC North. It was Rio Hondo's third loss to Pasadena this season.

Rio Hondo couldn't get its offense going as the Roadrunners had nearly as many errors (27) as kills (33) in the match and totaled just a .061 hitting percentage. Rio Hondo held early leads in all three sets but each time Pasadena was able to come-from-behind to pull out the win.

Bree Newton led Rio Hondo with eight kills with Michelle Rosas getting five kills. Haley Brownwood had a good match, leading Rio Hondo with 15 assists and five aces while Carleigh Cruz had a team-high 10 digs.

Pasadena (14-8, 4-1 SCC North) committed just six errors as a team and was led by Vanessa Lopez' nine kills.

Rio Hondo returns home for its next two matches. On Friday (Nov. 4), the Roadrunners host East Los Angeles at 6 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. match on Nov. 9 vs. Chaffey.
