Women's Volleyball: Roadrunners can't get past No. 19 Long Beach

Facing a state-ranked opponent for the second time over its last three matches, Rio Hondo College suffered a 3-1 South Coast Conference interdivision loss to visiting No. 19 Long Beach City College on Friday in Whittier.

Rio Hondo played well despite dropping the opening set 22-25 and came back to beat the Vikings 25-21 in the second. But Long Beach (15-3) took over in the third and carried that momentum in the match-clinching fourth set.

Errors hurt the Roadrunners in the loss as the squad committed 25 attack errors and hit just .101 on the night.

Bree Newton led the Rio Hondo offense with eight kills to go along with three blocks and three digs. Michelle Rosas and Paula Alferez both had seven kills while Haley Brownwood had a team-high 16 assists. From the back line, Natalie Magallon led the Roadrunners with 14 digs.

Rio Hondo, now 10-8 overall, returns to South Coast Conference North Division play on Wednesday (Nov. 2) when it travels to Pasadena City College for a 6 p.m. match.
