Women's Tennis: Rio Hondo advances four to State Championships

Rio Hondo College freshman Nicole Robbins heads a list of four Roadrunners to qualify for  the upcoming 2016 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Tennis State Championship in Ojai. The tournament begins Thursday (Apr. 21) with opening-rounds matches and runs through Saturday.

Robbins will be the Roadrunners' lone singles player to advance and will team up with sophomore Delia Hidalgo in doubles. Also making the trip to the state tournament is the freshman duo of Trecia Gonzaga and Roxanne Valverde.

In singles, Robbins received a bye in the opening round and will take on No. 14 North seed Parker Pilati of Modesto Junior College in the second round.

In doubles, Robbins and Hidalgo received an opening-round bye and will face the duo of Karen Lopo and Carolina Herrera-Najar of San Diego City College in the second round while Gonzaga and Valverde drew the team of Masa Petrovic and Lauren Voiers of Santa Monica College in the first round.

Rio Hondo closed out its match schedule with 7-11 overall record and went 4-8 in South Coast Conference play under head coach Karen Unger.
