Women’s Soccer: No. 1 Roadrunners advance with 4-0 Round 1 playoff win

The state championship run for the Rio Hondo College women's soccer team continues after the top-seeded Roadrunners cruised to a 4-0 win over No. 16 San Bernardino Valley College in an opening-round game of the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Saturday night in Whittier.

Rio Hondo, now 16-1-2, will host No. 8 Chaffey College (17-3-1) in Round 2 of the playoffs on Tuesday (Nov. 23) at 6 p.m. Chaffey was a 2-0 winner over No. 9 Antelope Valley College on Saturday.

Ashley Vera, Jackie Marin, and Aunisa Morales all scored first-half goals to give the Roadrunners a big advantage at the break. Raeanne Jones added a goal in the second while goalkeeper Daniella Marin posted Rio Hondo's 10th shutout of the season.

Rio Hondo and Chaffey will meet for the second time this season. On Sept. 27, the Roadrunners rolled to a 5-2 victory in Whittier.
