The No. 3 state-ranked Rio Hondo College Roadrunners are conference champions for the second consecutive season after playing No. 9 Mt. San Antonio College to a scoreless draw on Tuesday night. The Roadrunners ended the regular season with an 8-0-1 record and 25 points to edge Mt. SAC (7-0-2, 23 points) for the South Coast Conference North Division title.

Head coach Jennifer Tanaka-Hoshijo and the Roadrunners won their fourth SCC championship (2016, 2017, 2019, 2021) and sixth conference title over the last seven seasons. Prior to making the move to the SCC, Rio Hondo captured consecutive Foothill Conference titles in 2014 and 2015.

Rio Hondo went unbeaten in conference play for the second straight season as well. In 2019, the Roadrunners went a perfect 8-0. This season, the Roadrunners outscored its SCC opponents by a 35-3 margin.

Rio Hondo will take a 13-1-1 overall record into this weekend's South Coast Conference Championship Tournament. The Roadrunners earned the top seed and received a first-round bye. They will host the winner of #4 Long Beach and #5 Cerritos in the tourney semifinals on Tuesday (Nov. 9) in Whittier.

The SCC championship final and third-place game are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 12 at El Camino College. The winner of the tournament earns the conference's automatic bid into the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
