Women’s Soccer: No. 15 Rio Hondo hands Pasadena record-setting loss

Serina Vargas and Vivian Viramontes both scored three goals each to help lead the No. 15 nationally-ranked Rio Hondo College women's soccer team to a huge 9-1 rout at Pasadena City College on Tuesday.

The victory improved the Roadrunners to 7-1-3 overall. The eight-goal defeat was the worst ever suffered at home by Pasadena in the program's 23-year history.

Rio Hondo quickly struck for the first goal as Viramontes scored in the game's opening minute. PCC's Sophia Noriega tied up the game at 1-1 with her goal in the seventh minute before the Roadrunners' offense exploded.

Rio Hondo was up 5-1 at halftime and went on to score eight unanswered goals. Also scoring for the Roadrunners were Zitlali Jimenez, Estephania Toni Gonzalez, and Cheyenne Tucker while Alice Hernandez was credited with four assists.

Anaguisel Ramos earned the win in goal for Rio Hondo and made five saves.

The Roadrunners return to action on Friday (Oct. 18) at 6 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Harbor College in both teams' South Coast Conference opener.
