Women’s Soccer: Rio Hondo win streak snapped by No. 4 Cerritos

The Rio Hondo College women's soccer team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 South Coast Conference interdivision loss to No. 4 nationally-ranked Cerritos College on Friday in Whittier.

The Roadrunners had momentum on their home field early. Emma Contreras broke through for her fifth goal of the season, as she scored past Cerritos goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez in the fifth minute off the assist from Taly Jimenez to give Rio Hondo a 1-0 lead.

Cerritos was stunned, but not out. Midway through the first, Itzel Ballesteros scored the equalizer for the Falcons in the 29th minute to send the game into halftime at a 1-1 tie.

Mia Ramirez gave Cerritos the lead in the 56th minute while Stephanie Nava added an insurance goal in the 87th minute to close out the Falcons' victory.

The defeat dropped the Roadrunners to 9-3-1 overall. Rio Hondo will look to bounce back on Tuesday (Oct. 24) when it hosts El Camino College at 6 pm in another SCC crossover match. The Roadrunners return to SCC North Division play on Friday (Oct. 27) at Chaffey College.
