Women's Soccer: Roadrunners advance with 3-1 playoff win vs. Cypress

No. 4 seed Rio Hondo College's playoff run got off to an impressive start as the Roadrunners cruised to a 3-1 win over No. 13 Cypress College on Saturday night in an opening-round game of the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Rio Hondo jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead 30 minutes into the contest and was up 2-1 at halftime. The Roadrunners added an insurance goal in the 78th minute before closing out the win.

Gracie Lopez, Erika Lizarraga, and Melissa Gonzales all scored for Rio Hondo while Daisy Gallegos had a pair of assists. Jenny Garcia picked up the win in goal for the Roadrunners.

With the win, Rio Hondo improved to 14-1-5 overall this season. The Roadrunners advance to Round 2 of the SoCal Playoffs to face former Foothill Conference rival and No. 5 seed San Bernardino Valley College. The game is set for Tuesday (Nov. 22) with a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Rio Hondo College Soccer Complex. Tickets to the CCCAA postseason event are $12 for general admission and $8 for staff, students, and children.

Tuesday's game will mark the first meeting the season between the two squads. The winner will advance to face either No. 1 Cerritos or No. 8 Moorpark in Saturday's (Nov. 26) third-round game.
