Women's Soccer: Roadrunners explode for 7-2 win at Pasadena

After scoring just two goals over its last three games, the Rio Hondo College women's soccer team got offensive in a big way by beating Pasadena City College 7-2 in a South Coast Conference North Division game on Friday at PCC's Robinson Stadium.

Erika Lizarraga and Samantha Garcia starred in the rout for the Roadrunners as the duo scored two goals each. Rio Hondo outshot the Lancers by a 17-3 margin and controlled the tempo throughout the contest.

Rio Hondo jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead in the first half after goals by Emma Contreras (20th minute), Garcia (26th), Lizarraga (32nd), and Garcia again in the 35th. Alexis Acosta scored for Pasadena (3-13-3, 0-7-0 SCC) to send the match into halftime with Rio Hondo leading 4-1.

Daisy Gallegos tallied her first goal of the game in the 48th minute to regain the four-goal advantage. Lizarraga scored her second of the match in the 89th minute and Gracie Lopez bounced a free kick in from 30 yards out just moments before the final whistle in the 90th minute to close out the victory.

Jenny Garcia and Felipa Moreno combined for the win in goal. Garcia saw the majority of time in the net and totaled one save.

With the win, Rio Hondo improved to 11-1-5 overall and 3-0-3 in SCC play. The Roadrunners have just two matches left in the regular season as they trail SCC North Division-leading Chaffey College by three points. Rio Hondo hosts Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday (Nov. 8) at 4 p.m. and gets its showdown at Chaffey on Friday (Nov. 11) at 1 p.m.
