SANTA ANA – Rio Hondo College totaled 41 points to finish in ninth place out of 24 teams at the annual Santa Ana College Tournament on Saturday.

Emitt Mercado had the Roadrunners' top individual showing by taking second place in the 285-pound weight class.

Mercado won all three of his matches to advance to the championship final but defaulted the contest to Bakersfield College's Corbin Hayes. Along the way he pinned Cerritos Jesus Venegas, defeated Santa Ana's Ruben Martin 8-2, and edged Kobe Pablo from Cerritos 1-0 in the semifinals.

The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 5) when they will compete in a pair of dual matches at East Los Angeles College. Rio Hondo will face host East Los Angeles and Moorpark College.
