Wrestling: Roadrunners earn third-place team finish at West Hills Tournament

Led by four top-six individual finishes, including a first-place showing by freshman Adrian Rios, the Rio Hondo College wrestling team took third place at the West Hills Tournament in Lemoore on Saturday.

The Roadrunners totaled 90 team points to finished tied with Bakersfield College. Mt. San Antonio College was first with 151 points, followed by Cerritos College in second at 121 points.

Rios earned top honors for the Roadrunners, taking first in the 157-pound weight division. He went a perfect 4-0 on the day, beating Josiah Quiroz of Bakersfield 4-3 in the final.

Alexis Tellez finished second at 125, going 3-1. His lone loss came in the final, dropping a 15-2 major decision to Cerritos' Jonathan Prata.

Donovan Sanin was also second at 149. He pinned three of his four opponents on his way to the final before suffering a 12-4 major decision loss to Lupe Ayon of host West Hills College.

Victor Atherton finished sixth at 125. He reached the semifinals with a pair of victories before falling to the consolation bracket.

Rio Hondo returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 2) when the Roadrunners are scheduled to compete at the Santa Ana Tournament.
