Wrestling: Alcobendas brings home gold medal from Modesto tourney

Led by by freshman Jacob Alcobendas' first-place showing at 165 pounds, Rio Hondo College went on to earn a seventh-place finish out of 14 teams at the Mike Tamana Invitational at Modesto Junior College on Saturday.

Alcobendas continues to improve as the season progresses. He was coming off a fourth-place finish at the Santa Ana College Tournament on October 1 before streaking to gold in Modesto.

Also placing for the Roadrunners at the tournament at the 197-pound weight division were freshmen Andrew Ramos in fifth place and Raphael Madrigal in sixth. At 157 pounds, Chris Martin was sixth.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 12) when the Roadrunners host Santa Ana College in a 7 p.m. dual match.
