PASADENA --- Sophomore Jennyfer Morales and freshman Rosalie Avalos both scored 23 points each to help lead Rio Hondo College to an 85-57 win at Pasadena City College in its regular-season finale.
Rio Hondo overcame a slow opening quarter to pull out the win. The Roadrunner fell behind early, trailing 11-2 four minutes into the first period and were down 19-11 heading into the second.
But a 7-0 run to close out the second quarter sent the Roadrunners into halftime with a 36-30 lead that they wouldn't give up. Rio Hondo would outscore Pasadena (8-15, 1-7 SCC) 32-17 in the third quarter, fueled by 11 points from Avalos.
Avalos added 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals to her big game while Morales grabbed 7 rebounds and had 3 steals.
Jiselle Cabrera contributed 18 points and 6 assists to win and Michelle Rachmat came off the bench to score 7 points.
With the South Coast Conference North Division victory, the Roadrunners closed out the season with an 11-15 overall record and finished third in the final standings at 3-5.
