Women’s Basketball: Avalos double-double paces Roadrunners to win at Mesa

Freshman Rosalie Avalos posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 68-50 non-conference win at San Diego Mesa College on Friday. The victory improved the Roadrunners to 5-7 overall.

Rio Hondo overcame an early deficit before cruising to the win.

The Roadrunners trailed 9-8 before closing out the first quarter outscoring Mesa 11-3. Rio Hondo was up 21-12 after the first quarter and went into halftime leading 35-25.

Avalos shot 6 for 15 from the field on her way to her third double-double of the season. She also had 5 steals.

Jennyfer Morales scored a game-high 21 points and added 8 steals, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jiselle Cabrera also had a good game with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Dec. 17) when it will compete at the two-day Glendale College Crossover. The Roadrunners are schedule to face College of the Canyons in its opener at 5 p.m. and will take on host Glendale on Saturday at 5 p.m.
