Women’s Basketball: Roadrunners get big win in season-opener over Barstow

The wait is finally over. The Rio Hondo College women's basketball team made its official return to the court on Friday as the Roadrunners opened up the Mt. San Antonio College Linda G. Smith Memorial Tip-Off Classic with a 74-35 victory over Barstow Community College.

Rio Hondo advances to Saturday's tournament semifinals and will face Sierra College at 7 p.m.

On Friday, the Roadrunners opened the game with a 10-0 run on their way to a 27-6 lead after the first quarter. That solid play carried over into the second as Rio Hondo held a commanding 50-15 advantage at halftime.

Freshman Jiselle Cabrera was impressive in her Rio Hondo debut. She led the Roadrunners with 15 points and added 5 assists and 5 steals. Sophomore Jennyfer Morales totaled 14 points, 6 steals, and 4 assists while freshman Rosalie Avalos contributed 10 points and 4 rebounds.
