Rio Hondo College All-State guard Amanda Lee has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at nearby Cal Poly Pomona.
Lee recently closed out an outstanding two-year career for the Roadrunners. She wrapped up her sophomore season by being named third-team All-State by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA).
"Amanda is a true leader who worked hard to become one of the best combo guards in the state," said Rio Hondo women's basketball head coach Rene Herrera. "She leaves Rio Hondo College as one of the top leaders in scoring and assist in school history. You cannot replace a player of her caliber."
Originally out of Gabrielino High School, Lee twice earned first-team All-South Coast Conference accolades. She ended the 2019-20 regular season leading the Roadrunners in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. Lee also averaged 4.8 assists and 3.5 steals to also lead her squad. Her assists ranked third in the South Coast Conference while her steals were fourth.
Lee leaves the college as one of the program's all-time leaders in scoring and assists. She averaged 15.2 points and 4.4 assists per game over her two-year Rio Hondo career. Lee totaled 894 points, 258 assists, 204 rebounds, and 161 steals.
She was key to the turnaround of the Roadrunner program. During her two seasons, Lee helped lead Rio Hondo to a pair of Southern California Regional Playoff appearances and a 20-win season this past winter.
"Amanda has played a huge role in turning our program into contenders every game," Herrera said. "She was always a threat on the court, even when the ball was not in her hands. She accomplished a lot of personal success but always put the team success as the first priority."
Lee also excelled in the classroom. She was named an Academic All-State selection by the CCCWBCA with a 3.76 grade point average.
"Amanda is a true student-athlete who took care of business in the classroom as well as on the court," said Herrera. "We are happy she will continue to play at the next level at Cal Poly Pomona."
